What’s still missing
- Unsourced figures stay marked To verify.
- Mod gaps include squish, port maps and tuned mileage.
- A source is how a line comes off this list.
Open gaps
What a sourced note would close.
These lines stay To verify or “not published” on purpose. A forum guess does not fill them. A manual page, or two independent sources, does.
Still not published by Haynes 4298
- Reed-valve clearances. The mounting bolts are 7 Nm. The gap is not published.
- RS125 fork-oil level. Quantity is 430 cc a leg of SAE 10W to 20W. The only level in the photographs is an RS50 figure and is not used.
- Pilot-screw turns, float height and needle-clip position. A forum window and a 14 mm blog figure are on the hacks page as disputed, not as the specification.
- Cylinder-head tightening order.
- A single premix ratio. Hartrusion quotes handbook ranges that move with rpm and throttle. The pumps are stamped 08 (123) and 33 (122).
- Type 122 ignition timing in degrees. Type 123 static timing is 19° / 1.84 mm, and Hartrusion adds a 10,000 rpm check of 12° / 0.74 mm.
- Balance-shaft tooth marks and gearbox end-float.
- Wheel, mains and swingarm bearing numbers, and seal sizes.
- Rider sag and spring rates.
- Banjo torque and bleed-nipple torque.
- Type 123 unregulated alternator output, and a regulator/rectifier failure test.
Still not a dated UK price
No asking-price survey with a date is published here. Pounds only, when a contributor sends a price with the date and the listing. OEM numbers stay empty until they are copied from the catalogue for that VIN. The method is on the parts page.
Identification that the bike still has to settle
- Which years are a Type 122 and which are a Type 123, beyond the research brief. 1995–1998 can be either. Read the casting.
- Year letters the brief did not list, including 1993, 1994 and 2003–2006.
- A Loris Capirossi replica. Named in passing, not confirmed.
- Paint codes.
- The exact wording an insurer wants after a derestriction. The legal duty to be insured is on GOV.UK. The policy sentence is not.
Mod gaps
- A jet stack checked on a Type 122 with a named pipe, a plug colour and the weather. The VHSB chart and the seller’s supplied jets do not agree, and neither is that bike.
- PHBH pilot-screw turns, float height and needle-clip position. A 1.5-turn air screw on the mods page is a VHSB note from one site, not the PHBH.
- Squish, a port-timing map, and a head volume for a modified 122. Haynes compression stays the stock figure.
- Type 122 ignition timing in degrees, and the angle of any timing wedge. One published test knocked. The angle was not given.
- A measured power gain for a named exhaust on an otherwise standard engine. A 2 to 5 PS estimate is one author’s, and the dyno note on that page was not a standard engine.
- RAVE opening speeds checked against a manual. The rpm list is one workshop page.
- The sprocket pair on your bike. A seller’s “standard” cell is marked only in colour, so it was not copied.
- Whether a heavier clutch is required after a pipe. A kit is sold. No capacity figure came with it.
- A sourced radiator, shock, fork or brake upgrade for 1993–2006.
- A premix ratio if the oil pump is removed. The pump ranges are not that ratio.
- Top-end mileage after a 34 mm carb and a pipe. The 5,500 and 10,000 mile notes are planning figures, not that interval.
- A plug-colour chart. CDI pinouts stay unpublished on purpose.
The pages that hold what did get a source are under mods.
What did get a source in this edition
- MOT tread: at least 1.0 mm across three-quarters of the breadth. MOT brake lining below 1.0 mm is a dangerous defect. Haynes still says 1.5 mm of friction material as a workshop minimum.
- First registration fee £55 on the GOV.UK fee page, checked 25 October 2026, plus the V55/5 import path.
- Oil-pump behaviour and the Type 123 timing check, from Hartrusion, kept separate from the Haynes tables.
- A 34 mm carb on a Type 122 that left with a 28 mm carb needs a larger inlet manifold. PJME and Hartrusion both say so. The Haynes stock carb remains the PHBH28BD. Jet stacks for the 34 mm body do not agree and are not adopted as a specification.
